Let's Build This Thing!

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Calling all volunteers. You might recall that one of the "requirements" of this project was being able to depend on LOTS of "free labor." Well, that time has come. If you're willing and able, there will be something for everyone to do (trust us) that will help make this a reality. Time to choose your Team.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS & DETAILS

End of Archibald Dr. (Park to be Named)

An Adventure Outlook playset from Backyard Adventures will be the centerpiece of the new playground area. Two picnic tables, several benches, and a pavilion will round out the space and provide seating for kids and adults. What a great place for a snack or just to chill.

Front Common Area (To be Named)

A cedar pavilion by Yardistry (or similar) will provide shelter from the blazing sun when kids (and parents) want to take a break. A picnic table will make for an inviting place to chill out or enjoy some snacks. And on those school mornings, what a great gathering place for the bus kids.

VOLUNTEER "OPPORTUNITIES"

"Many Hands Make Light Work"

There’s plenty of work to go around and NO expectation that the same 2 or 3 people will or should do it all. This needs to be a group effort. There will be a meeting of ALL volunteers in “the park” (assuming it ever stops raining) the first week of March. The alternative will be a ZOOM call. Date and time will be announced. The target completion is no later than Sat, March 27th, weather notwithstanding. If we can do better – great! Finally, there will be plenty of directions and details available for all tasks – so no need for guess work or “making it up as we go along.”

Each Team will need a Leader ... so please think about it

Team 1 - Materials Delivery

Transporting and/or arranging for delivery …

4x4x12’ approx. 20 (treated/ground contact)
Other treated beams |6x6x12 | approx. 6
Landscape fabric
Patio (paver) stone | approx. 180
Paver base panels | approx. 28
Paver base | TBD
Picnic tables x 2 (fully assembled)

Team 2 - Ground Prep & Foundations

Ground prep

Remove obvious debris and/or obtrusive roots
Tree & brush trimming

Foundations

Install and level borders (4x4’s)
Install landscape cloth
Install paver stones and base
Install pea gravel (or similar material – TBD) in playset area

Team 3 – Assembly & Installation

Assembly and placement of all playset equipment
Assembly and placement of Library Box
Assembly (if any) and placement of benches
Staining and placement of picnic tables
Other assembly as needed

Team 4 – Refreshments

There will likely be some long days and we'll need to "feed & water" the troops ...

Lunch / Drinks / Snacks – be as creative as you like … maybe even a cookout or two
Your plans should match the activities / length / etc.

(rumor has it that cold beer's okay too)

Reality Check ... we can't possibly put every little detail in these plans, so everyone's gonna need to be happily flexible. Then there are the "wildcards" ... weather being the most obvious. So we're hoping you'll be willing to roll with things as changes occur - because they will. Thanks in advance!

Support our Kids 2021 Project

Donations have been amazing and have surpassed our projections. That's going to allow us to upgrade some of the equipment and do a few more things that were just "future plans" initially.
